Ultimate DOT Training – Compliance, Safety, Accountability (CSA) and Reasonable Suspicion Training

Transportation is a huge area of liability exposure for contractors. The BTEA and our safety consultant Contractors Risk Management (CRM) are teaming up to offer a training for supervisors who manage commercial drivers.  This training will include the 7 BASIC (Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories) and a Reasonable Suspicion Training.

These 7 BASICs include:

  • Unsafe Driving Practices
  • Driver Fitness – Hours of Service
  • Controlled Substances
  • Crash Indicators
  • Vehicle Maintenance
  • Hazardous Materials

Reasonable Suspicion Training is used by the supervisors to determine whether justification exists to intervene with an employee who appears to be actively under the influence. The training includes the physical, behavioral, speech, and performance indicators of probable alcohol misuse and use of controlled substances. Recurrent training for supervisory personnel is not required. We include several real interactive scenarios where the student learns how outside influences can affect a person’s demeanor, examples include but are not limited to; Low sugar reaction for the diabetic, prescription drug and over the counter drugs with interacting on each other. And of course, the “in your face situation where evidence of alcohol or drugs is visibly present.

The seminar will be conducted by Bruce Lawler, a former New Hampshire State Trooper and DOT compliance specialist.

Confined Spaces Training

Confined spaces incidents aren’t the most common, but they can be the most deadly. As we have seen in numerous incidents throughout New England, confined spaces hazards tend to be misunderstood or underestimated. In addition, many confined spaces injuries or fatalities  involve not one, but two, victims: the worker and the rescuer.

PFEANE/GEANE and Contractor’s Risk Management (CRM) are working together to offer this training to all our signatory contractors.  Make sure your employees are up to date on the latest in confined spaces regulations and procedures!

The course covers:

  • Key elements of the OSHA Permit-Required Confined Spaces Regulation
  • Confined spaces concepts and terminology
  • The difference between confined spaces and permit-required confined spaces
  • How to identify and evaluate hazards: atmospheric, mechanical, chemical
    Procedures for controlling hazards
  • Proper protective equipment for confined spaces
  • Duties of the entry supervisor, entrant, and attendant
  • Procedures for self-rescue, non-entry rescue, entry rescue by company employees, and entry rescue by emergency responders
  • Completing the entry process
